Color Hardener

What is colour hardener

Color Hardener is a ready-to-use, high performance blend of quality Portland Cement, Silicates, Colour Fast Iron Oxide Pigments and a special blend of Modifiers. It is designed for maximum surface strength, abrasion, and freeze/thaw resistance. By having all of the necessary ingredients pre-blended in a controlled environment, the proper ratios of cement, silicates, pigments and modifiers are consistent. This quality control promotes colour uniformity, product consistency, workability and reliability.

How do I use colour hardener

Concrete: Use a peaceable and finish able concrete mix of the required strength design with a slump not to exceed 125 mm and with no more than 3% - 6% entrained air. First Application: The Color hardener must obtain all its moisture from the base slab. The addition of any water will destroy the integrity of the wearing surface and cause bond failure. When most of the bleed water has evaporated from the surface of the concrete, cast on the color hardener allowing the material to sift through the gloved fingers while moving the hand. Apply uniformly at a rate of 13.5Kg-18.5Kg. per 100 sq. ft. Apply to areas adjacent to walls, columns, forms and doorways as soon as possible as these areas lose moisture more rapidly.
Hardener / Release Agent Colors

As soon as the color hardener has absorbed moisture from the concrete beneath (noticeable by a darkening of the surface), float the surface just enough to bring the moisture through the color hardener and to achieve a “Paste”. Second Application: The second application is then applied immediately so it can absorb the moisture through the first application before it evaporates. Apply the second application at right angles to the first for more even color and thickness. Apply uniformly at a rate of 9Kg – 13.6Kg. Per 100 sq. ft. When the second application has absorbed moisture (indicated by darkening of the surface), float the surface again.

Touch up: Next, immediately apply color hard to any light areas and edges, wait for the moisture to absorb into them and float entire surface using a round edged steel Fresno. Your edging should also be done at this time. Stamp Finishes: After sufficient bleed water has evaporated from the slab, apply a coat of powdered release agent.

How much do I use
  • Heavy Duty Industrial Use: 36Kg – 45 Kg. per 100 sq. ft. of surface area.
  • Medium Duty Industrial Use: 25Kg- 36Kg per 100 sq. ft. of surface area.
  • Light Colors: 36Kg – 45 Kg. per 100 sq. ft. of surface area is the minimum to achieve uniform color over a gray concrete slab.
What are some of the benefits of using a colour hardener?
  • Resistant to freeze thaw and automotive vehicular traffic
  • Available in 25 standard colors as well as custom coloring
  • Moisture insensitive after curing errors.
  • High Abrasion and Impact Resistance
  • Weather / Stain Resistant when sealed.
  • UV Stable
  • May be Chemically Stained
  • Colors will not fade
  • Enhances job productivity and reduces job-site
